Rank: Newbie Groups: Registered | On Friday morning I called the HR person listed in a posting that closed in late January to check my status. USAJobs says they are "reviewing applications." HR person told me that I, along with nearly 600 other people, had been referred to the selecting official. USAJobs still does not reflect that. Should I be worried?

Rank: Senior Member Groups: Registered | 600? How many positions are these 600 people competing for? Why did they refer 600? Why didn't they narrow down to the top 100?

Rank: Newbie Groups: Registered | I don't know how many people they are hiring but it is for a new agency, so I imagine they are hiring quite a few. The HR rep told me that more than 1,000 were referred for the position at all levels but "only" about 600 for GS-15.

Rank: Rookie Groups: Registered | Wow thats alot of referrals (I hope the hr rep was not being sarcastic...sometimes they get fustrated and say whatever). But from my experience sometime the status updates never change...I have some from over a year ago that still say reviewing resumes....its such a nerve racking process.

I doubt the government is creating another agency with the current budget constraints.

Rank: Newbie Groups: Registered | Should not have said agency. It is for a new bureau that is being built from the ground up. The CFPB.

Rank: Senior Member Groups: Registered | Hrm, the cynical side of me wonders why any bureau would need so many GS-15s running around (presumably with 600 referred applications). Too many chiefs and not enough Indians... I do wish USA Jobs were a little more transparent. Unless you're tossed out, you don't really know what's happening unless you contact HR or the selecting officer (which may or may not be a good idea). Ryos2011-02-07 06:45:05

Rank: Advisor Groups: Registered Was thanked: 1 time(s) in 1 post(s) | I called a few today that have been stuck at reviewing applications for a couple months out of five I was referred on four, one applied under the wrong vacancy notice. Of the four referrals two not selected and two still awaiting the selecting officials to take any action. USA Jobs is great if they actually use it, Army resume site is pretty good it gives you how many people applied in addition to the basic info.

Most were from the Army, but there were a couple from DISA in there. It's weird to get that many. A couple of referred, a couple eleigible not referred, and few not referred, I've just never seen them all come at one like this. Interesting.

The Army uses their internal resumix / ANSWER system, which does not update USAJOBS in real-time. Changes made by HR folks to Resumix/ANSWER get exported to USAJOBS on a periodic (i.e. sometimes once a week, sometimes longer than a week) basis. For a more current picture of the status of your Army apps, check ANSWER.
You might be a firefighter if your kids are afraid to get into water fights with you ...

Rank: Senior Member Groups: Registered | I will say too that USAJOBS is pretty much worthless at present. It's updated by HR folks that are drowning in positions they are trying to get filled ASAP. As such, it's pretty out of date and often inaccurate. For example, I've been contacted by SO's at no less than three agencies for positions that USAJOBS either says I was not referred for or shows no status either way (the dreaded "application received").

These status updates I got today are from difference branches from within the Army and all came from USAJOBS. aplcr03312011-02-10 08:40:37

Rank: Groupie Groups: Registered | @aplcr0331 - Those updates did not come from USAJOBS, we don't know your application status any more than you do unfortunately, that came directly from the agency. @nitehumper - Those of us that run USAJOBS do not have access to update your application status. When you apply to an agency, they are the ones that review your application and update your status. USAJOBS is set up to receive status updates from all systems we connect to, but not all of them choose to send them to us unfortunately.

Rank: Member Groups: Registered | Friday at 03:19 PM, I received a Disposition Letter stating that "Another candidate was selected for this position." Audit Code O1; The selecting office has indicated that you were not selected for the position. However, you have been designated as an alternate selection should the person selected becomes unavailable later. Then at 04:01 PM, my usa jobs says that my status has changed to selected. Does that mean that someone hit the wrong button for my status or am I actually selected?

Does that mean that someone hit the wrong button for my status or am I actually selected? It means you were selected, until it changes again. Patience is key. Don't invest yourself emotionally in only one application. If you mustfind another job, apply for all jobs in which qualify and would be willing to accept if given an offer. For any job which you apply, assumeyou will not get accepted... you will never be disappointed and might just be pleasantly surprised. Some folks apply for many many jobs and get referred for a handful and get a few offers (like me). Other people seem to claim bragging rights for getting referred for all or nearly all applications. For the latter, they are likely being extremely patient and selective in what they apply for. Either way, a focused resume and patience in waiting for the system to "grind its gears" is required for any kind of result. The federal hiring process is "ground zero" for bureaucratic red tape, after all.
